Introduction

You are planning a 4 day (3 night) trip to Dubbo for you and your family during the October school holidays. You have a budget of $600 for accommodation, food, petrol and sight seeing.

 

The Task

You are to present a portfolio of information which demonstrates your research on Dubbo. You will create a well planned itinerary for your holiday including where you will stay and places you will visit. You will also make up a table of estimated costs within the budget allowed.

 


The Process

 

Open up the Microsoft Word document with file name Planning a Holiday to Dubbo. Print this document. It contains a series of worksheets on which you will write down the information you collect as you do your research and plan your holiday.

 

Getting to Dubbo

Print out a map of NSW to see where Dubbo is:

Highlight Dubbo and the route you would take to get there. Put the map into your portfolio.

 

Use your worksheets to show your answers to the following questions:

  • Approximately how far it is from your town? Use the NRMA Travel Calculator :
  • Where could you stop on the way to Dubbo, remembering that you need to have a break at least every 2 hours?
  • How long do you estimate it will take to get to Dubbo?

 

The Cost of Petrol

Work out the cost of petrol:

  • Estimate how many kilometres you will drive to get to Dubbo and home and how many kilometres you will drive around whilst there.
  • How many kilometres do you estimate you will drive altogether?
  • How many kilometres do you usually drive on a litre of petrol?
  • How many litres of petrol do you estimate you'll use?
  • How much do you estimate petrol will cost you?

Reseach the weather in Dubbo at this time of the year.This website will help you:

  • What sort of clothes would you need to take?

 

Zoo

Find out about the Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. Go to the Zootopia website which has information on both Taronga Park and the Western Plain Zoo:

    • How much will it cost for you and your family to go to the Zoo?
    • What will you definitely want to see at the zoo?
    • How much time will you spend at the zoo?
  • Click on the Zoo Map. Click on Download PDF Version.
    • Print out a copy of the Zoo Map for your portfolio.

 

 

Things to do in Dubbo

Research other things to do in Dubbo. This website will help you:

  • Make a list of the things that you could do that look interesting. You need to consider who is going, their interests and costs. You must include a visit to the Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo. Estimate how long each of these activities would take, how much they would cost and why you would like to do them.

 

Accommodation

Research places to stay in Dubbo remembering that you have to choose a place that is going to keep you within budget.

  • Why did you choose this accommodation?
  • How much will it cost for your family for 3 nights? ( If the accommodation you are interested in does not have a price you could send an email or fax requesting a price or alternatively have a look in an NRMA Directory).

 

Make up a 4 day itinerary for a trip to Dubbo remembering that your holiday must stay within the $600 budget.

Fill in the Costs Table to show the estimated costs for your holiday. How much will the holiday cost altogether?

 Highlight and print the evaluation below. Complete it and then hand it to your teacher. 

 

Your work will be evaluated by you and your teacher as a team. Look at the table below and with your teacher tick the box that best describes you.
